Whole Chicken 1000 is a whole bird supplied to the 1000 weight grade, bone-in and complete rather than pre-jointed. Whole birds are ordered by grade rather than simply as ‘a chicken’ because size decides both roasting time and how many covers one bird will serve; grade 1000 is the smallest of our numbered grades, sized specifically for single-cover service.
What it is
The bird arrives whole and on the bone, skin on unless you ask us to remove it, as part of the same whole chicken range as every other grade we carry. Being the smallest numbered size, it is chosen where a compact bird matters more than a larger yield — the grade number is the only variable, so the kitchen still decides how it is broken down and cooked.
How it is prepared
We can supply it whole, spatchcocked flat for the grill, halved, quartered, or fully jointed into breast and leg portions. Giblets can be left in or taken out, and skin can stay on or come off — tell us which when you order.
Typical trade use
Kitchens buying grade 1000 typically want a single-portion roast or a quick-cooking bird for grill and charcoal service, where a compact size matters more than stretching one bird across several covers. Portion count from a single bird depends on how a dish is plated, so treat any covers-per-bird figure as a starting point rather than a fixed rule and confirm it against your own kitchen’s portioning. Where a touch more yield is wanted, Whole Chicken 1100 sits just above this grade, and Whole Chicken 1200 is the next step up again for twin-cover service. For a named single-portion bird rather than a numbered grade, Poussin is worth comparing.
Ordering notes
Weight grades are trade designations rather than a promise of an exact figure — confirm the grade and case quantity you need when ordering, and we will supply that grade rather than substitute a neighbouring one without asking. Ingredient and allergen information is supplied with the goods; confirm the current specification.

Frequently asked questions
Is Whole Chicken 1000 sold jointed or whole?
It is supplied whole by default. If you need it broken down into breast, leg and wing portions, tell us when you order and we will joint it to your specification.
How does grade 1000 differ from Whole Chicken 1200?
Both are whole, bone-in birds prepared the same way — the difference is size. Grade 1000 is our smallest numbered grade and suits strict single-cover service, while Whole Chicken 1200 gives enough yield for a single cover with more to spare or a light twin-cover, and takes a little longer to cook through because of the extra size.
Is there anything smaller than grade 1000?
Whole Baby Chicken is a smaller whole bird sold outside the numbered grading, and Poussin is smaller again for strict one-per-cover plating.
